Trying to boost your will power? Try clenching your muscles. A new study found that people faced with a self-control challenge such as putting their arm in a bucket of icy water, or avoiding a decadent dessert, were better able to muster will power when they clenched a muscle tightly. Researchers found that it didn't matter which muscle was tightened--finger, calf, hand, or biceps, but the will-power boost only worked during the moment they faced the self-control dilemma.
