Stress can trigger sleep disturbances in people without a history
of sleep problems. This finding follows a five-year Finnish study
of 16,627 men and women with undisturbed sleep and 2,572 with
disturbed sleep. People who suffered anxiety as a result of divorce
or a death in the family were at higher risk for sleeping problems
for at least six months after the stressful events, as compared
with those who did not experience stressful events.
