A new pill has halted osteoporosis in an animal study, and may offer hope for humans as well, researchers have found. The medication prevents the synthesis of serotonin in the gut, where it is responsible for preventing bone formation. The drug--called LP533401--may not only prevent osteoporosis, it may cure it completely, the study's researchers say. But studies will need to be conducted in humans, experts say, particularly since serotonin is a mood regulator.
