Government may monitor truck drivers for apnea

Truck drivers may be tested for sleep apnea under a new plan designed to reduce accidents caused by sleepiness. A medical review board from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration wants to require drivers over a certain weight to be tested for obstructive sleep apnea. Clinical studies have shown that commercial truck drivers have a higher incidence of the most severe form of sleep apnea when compared with the general population. Read more »
