The American Academy of Sleep Medicine says that establishing good sleep habits can increase a woman's chance for a healthy, full-term baby. Pregnancy can cause sleep problems, including insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and obstructive sleep apnea, which can increase the risk of preeclampsia and hypertension, notes Jodi A. Mindell, PhD, an associate director of the Sleep Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
