Obese people with sleep apnea can expect weight loss surgery to
ease the nighttime breathing problem, but not erase it. In a study
of the impact of bariatric surgery on sleep apnea, 24 obese
patients had sleep studies before and one year after bariatric
surgery. All but one patient still had persistent obstructive sleep
apnea despite their weight loss.
