A new study by Columbia University suggests that people who get five hours or fewer of sleep per night are about 60 percent more likely to develop hypertension than those who get six to eight hours of sleep. Sleep-related hypertension was especially prevalent in patients between 32 and 59 years old. Sleep deprivation also contributes to obesity, another serious hypertension risk.
