Weight loss improves mild sleep apnea

A new study of 72 overweight adults found that those who lost weight by changing their diet and exercising more improved their obstructive sleep apnea. Most patients in the study lost about 22 pounds, which was enough to improve their symptoms of apnea and daytime sleepiness. Of those who lost more than 33 pounds, 88 percent of them were able to reverse their condition completely. Experts say this suggests that moderate weight loss is enough to dramatically improve symptoms of this debilitating sleep condition.
