Despite the fact that humans will spend roughly one-third of their lives asleep, scientists still don't know why we do it. In fact, according to the journal Science, sleep is one of the "125 greatest unsolved mysteries in science." Experts have many theories about our need for rest, but one researcher says that it may be a way to conserve energy while still allowing people to respond to danger, and, evolutionarily speaking, it may reduce the risk of injury caused by being found by predators.
