  • QUESTION: Insomnia and Thyroidectomy
I have been experiencing chronic insomnia for more than three years. I had a hemithyroidectomy three years ago for a very large goiter. But, my TSH, T3 and T4 blood tests keep coming up in the "normal" range. My doctor keeps blaming the insomnia on menopause, but I feel like it must be related somehow to the thyroid. I have tried exercise, acupuncture, warm baths, warm milk, and no caffeine after noon. Nothing works except Ambien and even now that is only working some nights. Could it possibly be related to my thyroid?
