Months ago, I predicted that the real killer app for the iPad would be geotarged display ads, taking mobile advertising a giant step ahead of any tiny text messages currently posing as advertising. It’s now official, as Steve Jobs is set to unveil  the iAd, which some experts predict may “offer a hypertargeting capability that would enable advertisers to target ads to consumers based on their geographic proximity, paving the way for a new generation of location-based advertising”:

If you are an advertiser whose business relies on physical visits—or using proximity as part of a compliance campaign (think cholesterol warnings when approaching a Dunkin’ Donuts)–this second iPad shoe to drop warrants watching…just as Apple may be watching YOU.
