Hello,

Why does my arm hurt when I put the patch on my arm?  Every now and then my whole  arm aches.  Then it goes away.  It will go through this cycle the entire time it's on my arm.  Is that normal?

HI Lois, thanks so much for your post.  I'm a moderator for the site and though not medically trained I am able to help answer questions and help you find the information you need.

I searched our site and was able to find our section on the patch.  Hopefully it answers your question, but if not you should check with your doctor.  You could be having some kind of reaction that would require attention.

Thanks again, all the best, sue

Hi, Lois. Not sure why your arm hurts, perhaps you have an extreme sensitivity to nicotine or perhaps its the glue in the patch. It's not something I've heard of but I think it is of concern that your entire arm is affected, not just the skin around the patch. I would recommend that you ask your doctor.

You might consider trying the nictrol inhaler instead, but until you know what is causing your arm to ache it might be best to hold off on nicotine replacement therapy.

    best,

    anne
