    Dear AGSerra,

It's terrible for you to have to suffer through so many other physical issues while also struggling to quit this very powerful addiction (as if it weren't already bad enough).

Your determination is what will see you through. Keep remembering that this too will pass.

We quit by taking it one day - sometimes one hour - at a time. Eventually you will look back in awe at your success. Give yourself time - be easy on yourself, and don't give in. Your body will thank you and you will be grateful that you hung in there. You can do it!

    best,

    anne

Hi There - thanks for posting and CONGRATULATIONS on your decision to quite smoking! It can be a bumpy road but as Anne says it will all be worth it soon.

You may want to read her articles on how to quit smoking - from preparing to quit to week 1, 2, 3, and 4, to after the first month.  It is a great way to hear tips on what to do.  As well, reading our Living Smoke Free section could help you as well.

Good Luck and stay  in touch on this site with your posts.

    All the best, sue

i think it's great that you didn't quit quitting.  i took the chantix for 4 1/2 months.  it made totally nauseated for about 15 minutes after i took it.  and i also realized that i needed "intestinal aid".  activia yogurt and miralax worked wonders.  my posts tell the story of health issues.  i HAD to quit.  but i was truly a "die hard" smoker.  i never even tried to quit once!  i went cold turkey at first ( made easier by being confined to a hospital bed and not having the audacity to request a smoking permit from my cardiologist). i was in the hospital for 8 days.  when i got out i realized that the freedom was a problem and started the chantix.  for me, i don't think i would have stood a fighting chance without it.  it stopped the major jonesing.  i always had freaky dreams but they may have gotten more technicolor and maybe a little scary, but manageable.  and again, NO MAJOR JONES!  honestly, i'm still struggling (see my post) but the chantix made quitting possible for me.  any way you go about it i think it's awesome.  i feel like anyone that isn't quitting for "life or death" is a paragon of self control and wisdom.  so keep going.  if you ever need a cheering section, or nonjudgemental support, i'd be happy to be your penpal ; i could use the help myself!
