Category:feetswellingnicotine withdrawal

I was on the patch for 10 weeks, 10 days later my feet and ankles blew up. Any relationship?

I smoked for 30 years and my body is still in active nicotine craves.  Minor hand swelling, probably related to the heat.  Still in eight gain mode, though not dramatic.  Fluid retention appears to be substantial.

Also take 500 mg od dilantin, since 1975.

red,

Thanks for your question.  Swelling of the hands and feet is not a recognized side effect of nicotine patches.  These symptoms may be due to another problem that has developed over this time period.  Other possibilities include a reaction between the patch and medication you are taking.

I suggest you make an appointment with your physician for an evaluation.  He will ask further questions and perform a physical examination, after which he will be in the best position to make a diagnosis and/or come up with a plan to find out.

Also, congratulations on your efforts at kicking the habit.  Keep up the good work, but see your doctor and get to the bottom of these symptoms.
