Hello sally,

First let me say good luck with quitting smoking!  It is one of the best things you can do for your health, and it will greatly improve the course of your COPD.

No, it should not interfere with the effectiveness of your medications.

The patch is generally considered a safe medication.  You may notice some nausea and itchiness where you place the patch.  Also, some people note that their dreams become much more vivid, or that they have nightmares if they were the patch at night.

Quitting smoking is incredibly hard as I am sure you know.  You may find you need additional therapies, including Zybam, Chantix, and stop-smoking programs in your community.  Try the american cancer society's website.  They list these medications and programs.

Good luck!

To your health,

Neil MD
