Can Acid Reflux Cause Severe Upset Stomach, Especially Upon Waking?
I do not get much heartburn, but I have a severe problem with upset stomach which I wake up with everyday. I take a gravol every morning and it helps. During the day it doesn't happen much, only if I go too long without eating, and a few other things can bring it on. If I have a nap in the afternoon or early evening, I always wake up with an upset stomach, and have to take another gravol. My doctor is treating me for acid reflux, but I very seldom get heartburn?
This is a duplicate question, but I also found a link to some lifestyle changes that will help you get through this. Here is a link to a larger article. Below is a short excerpt.
Lifestyle modifications: Patients are told to avoid acidic foods (citrus and tomato-based products), alcoholic beverages, caffeinated beverages, chocolate, onions, garlic, and peppermint. It's important to avoid large meals and to avoid lying down for 3 to 4 hours after eating. Avoid tight clothing around the waist. Decrease intake of dietary fat. Elevate the head of the bed 4 to 8 inches. Lose weight and stop smoking.
I hope this helps! Take care and stay in touch!
