Can Acid Reflux Cause Your Tongue To Be Sore And Be Irritated When Eating Or Drinking?

Answer

Hi Elizabeth,

It is possible that acid reflux might be the cause, but you won't know for sure unless you see your doctor. While online sites are great places to get information so you can ask all the right questions, they can not take the place of your doctor's advice and care.

There are several conditions that can affect the tongue. One is thrush (see the link below about painful swallowing) which is a yeast infection caused by candida that can affect the tongue and make it be sore and irritated. There is glossodynia which is an irritation caused by eating or drinking something that is an irritant to the tongue (I got this when I used to eat wasabi cashews all the time, lol)

You can read more about symptoms that might be affecting your tongue and throat here in the symptoms database.

I hope this helps. If you think you are experiencing something more serious, it would be best to see your doctor. While online sites are great for getting the information you need to ask all the right questions, it can not take the place of your doctor's advice and medical care.

Take care!
