Can I Take Amoxicillin For A Cold

I have just a sinus cold, runny nose and a slight headache. Would amoxicillin 500mg get rid of my cold if taken as prescribed? Thank you.

No, amoxicillin will not get rid of your cold and it could make you more susceptible to other infections.   Amoxicillin is an antibiotic.   Antibiotics work for bacterial infections, but colds are caused by viruses and antibiotics have no effect on viruses.

Personally, what has worked best for me is taking either Airborne or a zinc product like Zycam when the first symptoms of a cold begin and until the symptoms are gone.   Thus far it has always reduced the length of the cold significantly.   Normally I'll have a cold for at least 10 days, but if I start taking one of those products when it first starts, it never lasts more than 3 days - and I usually start feeling a little better the first day.
