‘Beer Goggles’ Are Real

It seems the "beer goggle" effect is real—especially for women. A recent study showed that drinking beer makes people more attracted to happy faces and social situations, and can boost positive behavior. This may explain the well-known effect of social drinking that can cause a person to be attracted to someone they wouldn't normally be attracted to if they weren't drinking.

Although many adults are aware of the effects of alcohol on social behavior, there is very little scientific information about this. Research presented at the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology indicates that one glass of beer helps people see happy faces faster in social situations.

This effect is greater in women than men. According to researchers, improved social cognition likely enhances sociability.
