Is A Blood Pressure Of 160/120 Dangerous?
Is a blood pressure of 160/120 dangerous? I also am having dizziness and a tingling in my hands.
The Joint National Committee defines four blood pressure categories, and your reading falls into the Stage 2 Hypertension:
Very High Range - Stage 2 Hypertension
Systolic (top) blood pressure 160 mm Hg or high
Diastolic (bottom) blood pressure 100 mm Hg or higher
If in this range you have hypertension (high blood pressure).
I recommend you contact your physician to discuss appropriate treatment options, including medication. There are also a number of lifestyle changes you can make to lower your blood pressure, including losing weight, quitting smoking, reducing your salt intake, and increasing the amount of exercise you do daily. Having uncontrolled high blood pressure greatly increases your risk for a stroke or a heart attack, so it's important to get it under control as soon as possible.
