My Blood Pressure Is 178/111 Should I Go To The Hospital
The American Heart Association Recommendations are as follows:
Normal-Systolic: less than 120 and Diastolic: less than 80
Prehypertension-Systolic: 120-139 or Diastolic: 80-89
High Blood Pressure Stage I-Systolic: 140-159 or Diastolic: 90-99
High Blood Pressure II-Systolic: 160 or higher or Diastolic: 100 or higher
Hypertensive Crisis (Emergency Care Needed)-Systolic: Higher than 180 or Diastolic: Higher than 110.
You're diastolic blood pressure is in that range where emergency care is needed and you systolic is very close to the 180 mark. Are you having any other symptoms, i.e. headache, nose bleeds, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea/vomiting, etc...? If you are questionable on going in and you feel okay you could check it again in 15min-30min. and if it still reads high, I would recommend you to go in and be evaluated.
High blood pressure puts you at increased risk for a stroke and other heart/artery concerns.
