My Blood Sugar Was Tested At 179 Fasting During An Er Visit. Can I Have Diabetes?

Answer

Hi Ginger,

It is possible that you have diabetes or you are in a pre diabetic state, it is also possible that since you were in the ER, the stress of what you were doing raised your blood glucose level. The only way to tell for sure is to have either your doctor or endocrinologist have you tested. They will take your history, assess your risk factors and test you for indicators.

There is some great information here at Health Central that will help you when asking questions of your doctor. While this is a great resource, online sites can not take the place of your doctor's solid medical advice.

There is a great overview about diabetes here. You can read about the symptoms that indicate possible diabetes, possible causes and risk factors that contribute to type 2 diabetes, the medications generally prescribed for diabetics, tips about lifestyle changes and diet and exercise that can help, and treatments currently being used.

I hope there is something here that helps. Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
