Chest Pain/tender Breasts

Hey, I have had heavy and crushing chest pain for about 4/5 years now, and it has been there constantly. I have been to the doctors but all he has said is that i have pulled a muscle and that i should take painkillers. But i know for a fact that it isn't that, and a pulled muscle would have disappeared soon after. And within the past few weeks, my breasts have felt really tender and sometimes sore. I have gone up 3 bra sizes within the past month. I went from a 34c to a 38c. And the cup is still quit big around my breasts. I have no idea what the cause could be or what i should do. As everytime go to the doctors he says its a pulled muscle. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Sarah

Sarah, breast pain that lasts for 5 years isn't a pulled muscle. Nor is it likely to be breast cancer, as cancer develops into something obviously wrong more quickly than that. It sounds like you may be experiencing fibrocystic change, a condition quite common in women in their 20s-40s. Its symptoms include pain, soreness, and sometimes swelling, due to cysts or fibroadenomas.

I'd suggest you get a second opinion from a breast specialist. There's treatment for fibrocystic change; no sense suffering if there's something you can do to reduce your pain, right? So ask your regular doctor for a referral. Good luck - I hope you get this resolved soon. PJH
