Can I Take A Chewable Antacid With Omeprazole

i would like to know if i can take chewable antacids while taking omeprazole? Sometimes I feel like I need a little something extra, particularly if I've had a late meal.

Answer

Ideally you would take a chewable antacid at least a half hour after taking your acid reflux medication. You want to give your body a little time to get the omeprazole in before taking something that works by coating the stomach. While you should always check with your doctor, it is quite common for people to supplement their PPIs with antacids when they've overindulged.

Next time you know you're going to be eating more than normal, you can use these tips on eating out with acid reflux.
