I Have A Cholesterol Number Of 9. What Does That Mean???

I just had a blood test and the nurse told me I have a Cholesterol number of "9", then she told me to diet and excerize and to see them in 4 months.

Yep thats all they told me, I know crazy, right.

So what the H___ do I do Now,,,,, haha.

Thanks for any info

Hi Randy,

In order to give you an accurate answer, I'd need to know your cholesterol breakdown (LDL, HDL, and triglycerides), so I could more accurately convert to mg/dl and evaluate your levels.

However, from the nurse's advice, I think it's safe to say that your total cholesterol is elevated and needs to be lowered. Determining the step that would be most effective, depends on which number is elevated (LDL or triglycerides).

If LDL is high, focus on lowering saturated and trans fats intake, while increasing dietary fiber (especially soluble fiber).

If you struggle with high triglycerides, check out Triglycerides: Why they matter and how to lower them.

Your MD is your best resource to fully understand your health, risk, and most effective treatment options. Don't hesitate to ask questions until you fully understand your situation and the steps you need to take.
