College women more likely to binge drink
It may be sorority houses that deserve the “Animal House” reputation rather than frat houses. A survey of university students’ lifestyles by researchers at the University of Vigo in Spain found that 56.1 percent of women are considered binge drinkers and will drink more alcohol within a short amount of time than their male drinking buddies. Male college students still consume more alcohol than women overall and tend to drink more often than women, but only 41.3 percent of men are considered binge drinkers.
Female college students also are more likely to live a sedentary lifestyle than male college students and men are more likely to go out of their way to work out. Men, however, are more likely to use illegal drugs than women. The survey found that 44.9 percent of men used illegal drugs compared to 30.9 percent of women.
