Is Cozaar An Ace Inhibitor

Hello A.W.

No, cozaar is not an ACE inhibitor. But it have very similar properties.

Cozaar, or losartan as its generic, is a member of the angiotensen receptor blocker family of medications. ARBs and ACE-inhibitors work in the same pathway to control blood pressure, but, ARBs have a slightly more specific method of action. They are a newer medication than the ACE-i and they do not have the annoying side effect of cough that as many as 10% of people experience with ACE-i. However, because they are newer, they also don't have the same breadth of research behind them to support their use in indications wider than just blood pressure like ACE-i (for example, kidney protection for people with diabetes).

Hope this helps.
