Common thinking was that children (or adults, for that matter) with eczema should avoid bathing or showering every day because it caused dry skin. Now, experts say go ahead and let your child hop in the tub to remove the dirt, irritants, and allergens of the day. Just avoid using too much soap, limit bath time to about 10 minutes, and remember to pat dry and slather on the lotion after.
Most doctors agree—more research is needed and parents should use common sense. If a daily bath worsens your child’s eczema, every other day is fine.
Keep in mind that bubble baths and shower gels can be irritating. Lukewarm water often is more soothing than water that is too hot and can sting.
