Hi. My Daughter Is Rheumatoid Factor Positive? Can That Ever Change So She Is No Longer Positive?

Answer

Hello Mom of RA patent,

Sorry to hear you are having to deal w/this issue, but this is a good place to come for information. I am not an expert, but I can share what I do know.

Some people who have a positive Rheumatoid Factor do not have RA. Some people who do have RA do not have a possitive Rheumatoid Factor. RA is not diagnosed by blood tests alone. The physician takes into account the clinical picture. For instance, is there swelling, redness, warmth in the joints? Is the patient fatigued? Are there joint deformities?

Your name indicates your daughter has been diagnosed with RA. RA is a chronic illness, but sometimes patients do go into remission. There are a lot of medications available today to treat RA successfully, and many people are able to lead healthy, productive lives w/the help of their medical team.

Best Wishses to you, your daughter, and the rest of your family.
