Demyelinating lesions due to migraine?

Health Professional

Full Question:

I have had chronic migraines for many years.

My most recent MRI showed "5mm demyelinating lesion of left parietal lobe." This was a non-contrast MRI. My doctor said this is from the migraines. I thought that migraines could not be quantified on testing. This has me thoroughly confused. On one hand it is a relief to have something that "proves" I have migraines, but on the other hand I would not want to dismiss something as migraine when it could potentially be another demyelinating disease process. What is your opinion? Beth.

Dear Beth;

Nothing "proves" you have migraines on an MRI! The lesion on your study could be representative of at least 7 or more things I can think of off the top of my head. Or, they could be related to Migraine as well.

Good luck,
