Diet Supplement May Reduce Cancer Risk

New research shows a potential link between a natural supplement called hops extract and a lower risk for breast cancer. Results of a recent study published in Chemical Research in Toxicology suggest a particular compound in hops extract "may have anti-cancer properties."

Made from the flower heads of the hop plant—an ingredient also used to flavor beer—the supplements are sometimes used instead of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat menopause symptoms. HRT is associated with an increased cancer and heart disease risk.

If confirmed through additional research, the findings of this latest study are exciting indeed. Breast cancer, which can affect men as well as, is the second most common type of cancer in women in the U.S.
