Can Diovan Be Taken With Lisinopril?

Thanks for your question.

Diovan (valsaarten) is a blood pressure medication in the class known as angiotensin II receptor blocker or ARB. This drug blocks the action of Angiotensin II which results in blood vessels dilating and more salt and water is lost through the kidneys. The final result is a lower blood pressure.

Lisinopril is and Angiotensin Converting enzyme inhibitor. It essentially helps block the production of the Angiotensin II mentioned above.

So both drugs work to cut down on the Angiotensin II: one by blocking its production (lisinopril), and the other by blocking the action of the drug itself (Diovan).

More and more physicians are using both of these drugs together in some situations that require more control than using one drug alone.

But this recommendation should only be made by your physician.

I hope this has been helpful. Best wishes.
