My Doctor Has Diagnosed Ice Pick Headaches. I Also Have Tender Scalp On The Same Side As The Pain

My doctor has diagnosed me with icepick headaches. I also have tender scalp on the same side as the pain. The stabbing pain is usually behind the ear and of frequent occurrence lately. The tender scalp is around the ear area and the ear area is mostly sore. Is this common?

Answer

Hi Denise!

With Ice Pick Headaches, sometimes the area around the temple, which is most commonly where ice pick headaches occur, can feel sore.

Has your doctor done any other tests just to be 100% sure that there is nothing else going on? An MRI or a CT scan? Most of the time these tests come back fine, but it's always good to have a starting point. This goes for anyone suffering with Migraine or debilitating headaches. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.
