Does Anyone Know If Gelatin Can Trigger Migraines And Where Is The Proof Of Aspartame Causing Them.

One of the first questions I asked my Neurologist at a famous medical center was, does aspartame trigger migraine headaches. She told me that she did not believe this to trigger migraines and that there was no serious studies that prooved it.

Then she gave me a list of foods, drinks , etc. to stay away from and I don't have that list anymore. But, I could swear it had gelatin on it.

Answer

I don't remember seeing gelatin on any list of potential food triggers, but that doesn't mean that it can't be a trigger for you.

Checking for studies about aspartame, I found studies published in Headache, the Journal of the American Headache Society, that confirm aspartame as a possible Migraine trigger for some Migraineurs.

You can find information about possible food triggers and a free downloadable workbook in our article Managing Migraine - Migraine Trigger Foods.

Hope this helps,

Teri
