Does The Flu Cause Low White Blood Cell Count?
I also have a low platelet count, white blood cell count is 2.6 and platelet is 49. Would this be the blood count of someone with the flu?
Answer
Hi sickperson,
I know you posted your question a long time ago, but I wanted to make sure that someone addressed your concerns and also to see if you received a diagnosis and treatment plan that worked for you. Feel free to share it here.
While I am not a medical doctor, I can tell you that the white blood cell count ("leukocytes") can go lower when you are ill; often the count rises first, then drops. Usually this is because the white cells are fighting the infection.
The flu is especially harsh on the body and can depress white cells. Whenever you are concerned, however, make sure to check in with your doctor.
