Does Grapefruit Or Grapefruit Juice Cause Your Blood Pressure To Rise?

This is what my wife has been told and I was wanting to find out if it were true. I love grapefruit. I take Norvasc 10 mg. I feel no adverse affects when I eat or drink grapefruit anything.

Answer

Hi Hansberm50,

The main concern with grapefruit and grapefruit juice is the possible interaction with medication. Since you are on medication, it would be best to discuss with your MD to rule out potential interactions.

Otherwise, grapefruit is a good source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant. Antioxidants help prevent the oxidation of LDL and build-up of arterial plaque when LDL levels are too high. So, potential for heart health benefit as long as drug interactions are not a concern.
