Does Ms Affect Your Spine

Answer

Hi Denise,

Welcome to Health Central. Let me try to answer your question.

Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system which is comprised of the nerves of the brain and spinal cord. In that way, it does affect the spine, specifically the spinal cord. You can read more about that here and at Merck Manuals.

Not every person with MS has demyelination in the spine. Some may only have lesions present in the brain. Where the lesions are located will affect different functions of the nerves of the central nervous system.

If that doesn't provide the information you were seeking, please come back and give more specific ideas on what information you are looking for.

Thanks,

Lisa
