Does Pain Medication Ie Oxycontin And Or Percocet Cause Weight Gain?

Since starting pain medications for severe back disease, I have found that I have gained a lot of weight. Could this have anything to do with it?

Answer

It's probably not due to the oxycontin. Oxycontin is more associated with anorexia than weight gain. It can (rarely) cause swelling and fluid retention which could be associated with some weight gain but its much more likely to cause weight loss. You might want to assess your diet and activity levels since pain often reduces activity levels. If you can't handle walking or other activities you might try working in the pool to take pressure off of your back. Good luck!
