Does Your Pulse Rate Affect Blood Pressure Readings?

If you take a brisk walk and then check your blood pressure, will that affect y our blood pressure reading? Should your blood pressur be the same either with the walk or not walking?

Answer

Hi Susie,

Typically, when heart rate increases blood pressure increases and when heart rate decreases, blood pressure decreases. So, you'd think with exercise heart rate would increase. However, when you increase your activity changes take place within your vascular system to widen your vessels to allow blood to flow and maintain a normal blood pressure.

All the best,
