Drug Interaction Fentanyl/morphine

Im a chronic pain sufferer currently snowed in. Im on Fentanyl 12 mcr/hr and 4 10/325 hydrocodone daily. I just started the patches last month after trying to manage w/morphine' I am unable to go 30 miles today to get my hydrocodone and have run out, however, I have 5 pills left of my previous prescrip of my morphine sulf er 30mg tabs and am suffering body pain today quite badly. Would it be safe to take 1 of my morphine tabs instead of the missing hydrocodone being I am also on the patch?Ive had multipe surgeries and chronic body pain due to arthritis and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

I would check with your doctor or pharmacist. The Drug Interactions checker at Drugs.com states these two drugs have a 'moderate' interaction with each other. Because both drugs suppress central nervous/respiratory system functioning taking them together accentuates that effect resulting in increased drowsiness and trouble concentrating. Drugs.com states

Using fentanyl together with morphine may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

This is not to say that these drugs cannot be taken together but they should be taken together with caution and under your physicians supervision.
