Can Eating Onions, Garlic Affect Vaginal Odor?

My wife's vagina occasionally smells like onions or garlic. Can eating certain foods affect the smell of a woman's genitals?

Answer

Strong foods, such as garlic and onions, can also cause an odor in the vagina. It is possible to eat these foods and have the smell appear several days later. Eating sweet smelling foods, such as pineapple, can make the vagina smell sweet.

Odor in the vagina is often caused by an imbalance in the bacteria. This can be from normal causes, such as semen, or from bacerial vaginosis, which is an infection. Anything that upsets the acidic balance of the vagina can cause an odor. If you or your wife is ever concerned about her genial region, she should seek the advice of her primary care doctor or gynecologist.
