Would You Expect A Routine Colonoscopy To Create Urination Problems?
Would you expect a routine colonoscopy to create urination problems? I am a 68yr old male, with no urination issues before the colonoscopy. Within 30 minutes of the procedure I was unable to urinate. I just figured it was temporary. After 72 hours of misery caused by painful pressure and a stream reduced to drops at a time, I'm beginning to wonder what could have happened and how? I feel a constant need to urinate, but somehow manage to go about every 90 minutes, but must spend about 30-45 minutes to void - and even then I don't believe my bladder is anywhere near empty. Could the doctor and/or instrument possibly have damaged my prostate gland or kidneys in some way to have caused this? I guess I'm ready to find a urologist although I've put off trying to leave the house in my condition. Or should I be calling a lawyer, thinking this isn't clearing up and could be long-term or permanent damage.
Routine colonsocopy should not cause urinary retention, however if you were anesthetized, urinary retention could be induced.
