Facial Tic? I Find Myself Grimacing (Scrunching My Face, Squinting Of My Eyes).

I find myself grimacing (scrunching my face, squinting of my eyes). Its been going on for a number of years, most of the time I don't realize I am doing it, but people certainly point it out. I do it when I concentrate or think, watching tv, combing my hair, talking on the phone, reading or looking at the computer screen, I've been caught doing it in almost every situation...it happens a lot during the day. It gets to the point where my face can feel tight and unrelaxed at the end of the day? Anyone can offer any insight?

Answer

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to tell you whether you are experiencing tics or if this is a sign of anxiety.

Tics are normally a repetitive movement of vocalization. Tics can increase when highly emotional or fatigued and often decrease in times of concentration.

Anxiety is characterized by intense or chronic fear or worry.

If you are expriencing discomfort or pain based on your situation, however, you should contact your doctor. Together you would be able to determine if you should require additional medical tests or care.
