Sharon Stone, born on March 10, 1958, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, comes from a large family with working class roots. Ms. Stone was the second born out of four children. Her mother was a homemaker; her father worked in a local factory. Ms. Stone was a bookworm and a local beauty pageant queen. At 15, she won a scholarship to Edinboro University in Pennsylvania where she studied creative writing and fine arts. After graduation, she moved to New York City and began a modeling career. This soon lead to television commercials, and she soon expanded her horizons to acting.
Ms. Stone made her first break into movies in 1980, when she had a small, non-speaking role in the film "Stardust Memories" by Woody Allen. She survived making many "B" movies during the '80's, married and divorced Michael Greenburg then made her big break in the film "Total Recall" with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1990. Ms. Stone is well known for her role as the sociopath novelist, Catherine Tramell in the movie "Basic Instinct" with Michael Douglas (whose aunt, Ida Sahr, lives next door to my parents, by the way!).
Sharon Stone is famous for another reason besides her good looks and talent. She survived a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH.) Ms. Stone was having the worst headache of her life on September 29, 2001. She knew this headache was different and went to the emergency room and was properly treated. We often talk bout the worst Migraine we've ever had but how do we know when to seek medical help for it? Take a look at this article for more information; Worst Migraine Ever?
A subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is bleeding that occurring in the space between the surface of the brain and our skull. SAH may cause seizures or strokes and even death. Ms. Stone's was actually caused by a vertebral artery dissection (VAD) which are 10 times rarer than aneurysms. VADs are rips in the various tiers of the vertebral artery.
SAH's can occur without warning, stem from traumatic events such as motor vehicle accidents or sports injuries. Some symptoms of a SAH may include (but are not limited to) the worst headache of you've ever had, stiff neck, nausea and vomiting and partial loss or total loss of consciousness. These can be similar to Migraine attack symptoms for some people. So it may be difficult to tell when to seek medical help.If you think you are having the worst Migraine ever, seek medical attention immediately. Sharon Stone put it very nicely when appearing on the Oprah Show - "I_f you have the worst headache you've ever had, go to the hospital because by the time you get to the hospital, you're as far gone as you wanna be_." So how exactly do you know when you are having "the worst headache of your life," or just a horrible Migraine attack? The article A Migraine Can Be an Emergency will help you figure this out.
Sharon Stone recovered nicely from her SAH's, having two angiograms a week apart. She has no long lasting neurological effects from her procedures. Although in an interview with Larry King in 2007, she said: "I seem to be able to walk and talk just fine (now). (But) in the beginning, I have to say, it was (touch and go)."
Ms. Stone knows luck was on her side when she suffered her SAH. It could have been a totally different outcome. She is grateful every day for the thoughts and prayers from her fans and the power of prayer.
