I'm Feeling A Fluttering In My Chest And Slight Pressure

the fluttering came on quickly and was accompanied with slight pressure in my chest; almost like there is a light weight on my chest. I have had a lot of stress lately; I was taking care of my mom and she has since died. I’m worried about my father and I have a lot of stress at work. Also I’m not always able to sleep at night because I can’t relax.

Answer

karensue,

Thanks for your question.

I am concerned with your symptoms of fluttering accompanied by chest pressure. This could all be due to your stress with minor extra heart beats. But there is a possiblitity that you are experiencing a cardiac arrhythmia with a fast heart beat. Sometimes these rapid rates compromise the amount of blood that feeds the coronary arteries with resultant chest pain.

Of course this is all speculation. You need to be seen by you doctor who will ask many more questions, examine you, perform an electrocardiogram, and possibly request some further tests. Then he/she will be in the best position to determine whether there is a problem or not.

So make an appointment as soon as possible to get to the bottoms of things.

Best wishes and feel better.
