First televised birth: December 2, 1952

The cameras were rolling when Gordon Campbell Kerr came into the world 60 years ago.  His parents, John and Lillian Kerr, agreed to have their baby’s birth filmed when he was delivered by Caesarean section at the Colorado General Hospital in Denver.  Then it was shown on local TV and eventually on 49 NBC stations—the first time a human birth aired on television. Why, you ask. It was part of a program titled “March of Medicine,” produced with the American Medical Association.
