Hi Mary, welcome and thanks for your question. Forteo and Reclast are two different types of medication. Reclast is a antiresorptive, which means it slows bone loss therefore increasing your net bone mass with treatment. Forteo is an anabolic that has the capability of producing new bone growth.
I’m not a health professional, but you can double check this information with your Dr.
I wouldn’t be able to say which medication is better because it’s like comparing apples to oranges.
I took Forteo and did really well going from severe osteoporosis to osteopenia in 2 years (the amount of time you take this drug). Reclast is given as an infusion once a year and Forteo is a daily injection and very expensive.
Most patients who take Forteo have t-scores below -2.5 or have a previous fracture. I would ask your Dr. which of these would be best for you.
Here’s an article on Reclast you can read that I wrote here at our site. If you’d like to read about Forteo, this article from the Cleveland Clinic, explains it very well and in relatively simple language.
Good luck and if you have another question just post again.
