Something’s eating my left nipple.
Lucy, if this came on suddenly and is progressing quickly, find a walk-in clinic, or go to the emergency room; any condition that worsens so fast you can see it happening needs medical attention ASAP. Given the pain, this may be an infection that needs a doctor’s attention.
If you don’t think it’s an emergency situation, keep your eye on it. Is it getting worse? Staying the same? Maybe getting a little bit better? If/when you see a doctor, s/he’ll want to know about how the condition started, and how it progressed.
You may have eczema, a common skin rash that sometimes affects the nipples. However, a rare type of breast cancer, Paget’s Disease of the Breast, can start with nipple itching, peeling, and pain, and can look a lot like eczema. If you’re diagnosed with eczema that DOES NOT respond to treatment, ask about the possibility of Paget’s, OK?
Best of luck - I hope this abates on its own quickly. PJH
