I Found A Small, Pea-sized Lump Right At The Edge Of My Left Breast On The Inside By The Breastbone.

Last night, I found a small, pea-sized lump on the inside of my left breast right at the edge of the breast by the breastbone. It is very hard, does not move, and is very tender to the touch. The skin on the top is not red, like for an infection. My breast has been kind of sore in that area for two or three weeks, but I never checked it before to see if it was a lump, but, for some strange reason, decided to look at it last night. That is when I noticed the lump and that the soreness is real strong right there. Any advice as I do not have any health insurance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

Hi Marlene - I'm sorry you don't have health insurance. Is there a low-cost clinic or somewhere else where you can be seen? Lumps that come with pain and tenderness usually aren't associated with breast cancer, but a breast lump should always be checked out to determine exactly what it is. This is not something you can take a chance with. If you don't know where to turn, I'd say go to your local hospital, ask to see the social services department, and plead your case. I don't believe they'd turn a woman with a breast lump away for lack of insurance. Good luck - PJH
