Detoxification has come in and out of vogue for decades. Usually when individuals are referring to detox, they are attempting to remove toxins (detoxifying) from their blood and organs. As with many integrated health care approaches, more research is needed on the specific approaches.
Many believe that lemon juice is a natural detoxifier for our body. Kim, Na, and Kim (2014) investigated the effects of a lemon detox diet on women who were overweight. They found that compared to a placebo juice, women who consumed lemon juice for seven days changed their body weight, BMI, fat percentage and waist circumference as compared to those in the placebo group. The lemon detox program also showed a significant detox effect related to decreased levels of C-reactive protein.
